دعای کمیل
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّى أَسْأَ لُكَ بِرَحْمَتِكَ الَّتِى وَسِعَتْ كُلَّ شَىْ ءٍ،
O Allah, I ask You by Your mercy that covers everything,
وَبِقُوَّتِكَ الَّتِى قَهَرْتَ بِها كُلَّ شَىْ ءٍ،
And by Your power by which You conquered everything,
وَخَضَعَ لَها كُلُّ شَىْ ءٍ،
And everything submitted to it,
وَذَلَّ لَها كُلُّ شَىْ ءٍ،
And everything humbled itself before it,
وَبِجَبَرُوتِكَ الَّتِى غَلَبْتَ بِها كُلَّ شَىْ ءٍ،
And by Your might by which You overcame everything,
وَبِعِزَّتِكَ الَّتِى لَايَقُومُ لَها شَىْ ءٌ،
And by Your glory which nothing can withstand,
وَ بِعَظَمَتِكَ الَّتِى مَلَأَتْ كُلَّ شَىْ ءٍ،
And by Your greatness that filled everything,
وَ بِسُلْطانِكَ الَّذِى عَلَا كُلَّ شَىْ ءٍ،
And by Your authority that is above everything,
وَ بِوَجْهِكَ الْباقِى بَعْدَ فَنَاءِ كُلِّ شَىْ ءٍ،
And by Your Face that remains after everything perishes,
وَبِأَسْمَائِكَ الَّتِى مَلَأَتْ (1) 321 أَرْكَانَ كُلِّ شَىْ ءٍ،
And by Your Names that filled (1) 321 the pillars of everything,
وَبِعِلْمِكَ الَّذِى أَحَاطَ بِكُلِّ شَىْ ءٍ،
And by Your knowledge that surrounds everything,
وَبِنُورِ وَجْهِكَ الَّذِى أَضَاءَ لَهُ كُلُّ شَىْ ءٍ،
And by the light of Your Face that illuminated everything,
يَا نُورُ يَا قُدُّوسُ،
O Light, O Most Holy,
يَا أَوَّلَ الْأَوَّلِينَ، وَيَا آخِرَ الْآخِرِينَ.
O First of the first, and O Last of the last.
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِىَ الذُّنُوبَ الَّتِى تَهْتِكُ الْعِصَمَ.
O Allah, forgive me the sins that tear away protection.
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِىَ الذُّنُوبَ الَّتِى تُنْزِلُ النِّقَمَ.
O Allah, forgive me the sins that bring down misfortunes.
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِىَ الذُّنُوبَ الَّتِى تُغَيِّرُ النِّعَمَ.
O Allah, forgive me the sins that change blessings.
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِىَ الذُّنُوبَ الَّتِى تَحْبِسُ الدُّعَاءَ.
O Allah, forgive me the sins that hold back prayers.
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِىَ الذُّنُوبَ الَّتِى تُنْزِلُ الْبَلَاءَ.
O Allah, forgive me the sins that send down calamities.
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِى كُلَّ ذَ نْبٍ أَذْ نَبْتُهُ، وَكُلَّ خَطِيئَةٍ أَخْطَأْتُها.
O Allah, forgive me every sin I committed, and every mistake I made.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّى أَتَقَرَّبُ إِلَيْكَ بِذِكْرِكَ،
O Allah, I draw near to You through Your remembrance,
وَأَسْتَشْفِعُ بِكَ إِلَى نَفْسِكَ،
And I seek Your intercession with Yourself,
وَأَسْأَ لُكَ بِجُودِكَ أَنْ تُدْنِيَنِى مِنْ قُرْبِكَ،
And I ask You by Your generosity to bring me closer to You,
وَأَنْ تُوزِعَنِى شُكْرَكَ،
And to inspire me with Your gratitude,
وَأَنْ تُلْهِمَنِى ذِكْرَكَ.
And to inspire me with Your remembrance.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّى أَسْأَ لُكَ سُؤَالَ خَاضِعٍ مُتَذَلِّلٍ خَاشِعٍ،
O Allah, I ask You with the plea of one who is humble, submissive, and reverent,
أَنْ تُسامِحَنِى وَتَرْحَمَنِى،
To forgive me and have mercy on me,
وَتَجْعَلَنِى بِقِسْمِكَ رَاضِياً قانِعاً،
And to make me content and satisfied with what You have given me,
وَفِى جَمِيعِ الْأَحْوَالِ مُتَواضِعاً.
And humble in all situations.
اللَّهُمَّ وَأَسْأَ لُكَ سُؤَالَ مَنِ اشْتَدَّتْ فَاقَتُهُ،
O Allah, I ask You with the plea of one whose need is severe,
وَأَ نْزَلَ بِكَ عِنْدَ الشَّدائِدِ حَاجَتَهُ،
And who has brought his need to You in times of hardship,
وَعَظُمَ فِيَما عِنْدَكَ رَغْبَتُهُ.
And whose desire for what is with You is great.
اللَّهُمَّ عَظُمَ سُلْطَانُكَ، وَعَلَا مَكَانُكَ،
O Allah, Your authority is mighty, and Your place is high,
وَخَفِىَ مَكْرُكَ، وَظَهَرَ أَمْرُكَ،
And Your plan is hidden, and Your command is clear,
وَغَلَبَ قَهْرُكَ، وَجَرَتْ قُدْرَتُكَ،
And Your might has prevailed, and Your power has flowed,
وَلَا يُمْكِنُ الْفِرارُ مِنْ حُكُومَتِكَ.
And there is no escape from Your rule.
اللَّهُمَّ لَاأَجِدُ لِذُنُوبِى غَافِراً،
O Allah, I find no forgiver for my sins,
وَلَا لِقَبائِحِى سَاتِراً،
Nor a cover for my shameful deeds,
وَلَا لِشَىْ ءٍ مِنْ عَمَلِىَ الْقَبِيحِ بِالْحَسَنِ مُبَدِّلًا غَيْرَكَ،
Nor one who can change any of my ugly deeds into good ones, other than You.
لَاإِلهَ إِلّا أَ نْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ وَبِحَمْدِكَ،
There is no god but You, glory be to You and praise be to You,
ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِى، وَتَجَرَّأْتُ بِجَهْلِى،
I have wronged myself, and I have been bold in my ignorance,
وَسَكَنْتُ إِلَى قَدِيمِ ذِكْرِكَ لِى وَمَنِّكَ عَلَىَّ.
And I found comfort in Your ancient remembrance of me and Your favor upon me.
اللَّهُمَّ مَوْلَاىَ كَمْ مِنْ قَبِيحٍ سَتَرْتَهُ،
O Allah, my Master, how many shameful acts You have concealed,
وَكَمْ مِنْ فَادِحٍ (1) 322 مِنَ الْبَلَاءِ أَقَلْتَهُ (2) 323،
And how many serious (1) 322 calamities You have removed (2) 323,
وَكَمْ مِنْ عِثَارٍ (3) 324 وَقَيْتَهُ،
And how many stumbles (3) 324 You have protected against,
وَكَمْ مِنْ مَكْرُوهٍ دَفَعْتَهُ،
And how many disliked things You have averted,
وَكَمْ مِنْ ثَنَاءٍ جَمِيلٍ لَسْتُ أَهْلًا لَهُ نَشَرْتَهُ.
And how much beautiful praise You have spread for which I was not worthy.
اللَّهُمَّ عَظُمَ بَلَائِى،
O Allah, my affliction has become great,
وَأَ فْرَطَ بِى سُوءُ حالِى،
And my bad state has gone too far,
وَقَصُرَتْ (4) 325 بِى أَعْمالِى،
And my deeds have fallen short (4) 325,
وَقَعَدَتْ بِى أَغْلالِى،
And my chains have held me back,
وَحَبَسَنِى عَنْ نَفْعِى بُعْدُ أَمَلِى (5) 326،
And the length of my hope (5) 326 has prevented me from benefiting,
وَخَدَعَتْنِى الدُّنْيا بِغُرُورِها،
And the world has deceived me with its delusions,
وَنَفْسِى بِجِنايَتِها (6) 327 وَمِطالِى (7) 328،
And my soul with its wrongdoing (6) 327 and procrastination (7) 328.
يَا سَيِّدِى فَأَسْأَ لُكَ بِعِزَّتِكَ أَنْ لَايَحْجُبَ عَنْكَ دُعائِى سُوءُ عَمَلِى وَفِعالِى،
O my Master, I ask You by Your glory that my bad deeds and actions do not hide my prayer from You,
وَلَا تَفْضَحْنِى بِخَفِيِّ مَا اطَّلَعْتَ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ سِرِّى،
And do not expose me with the hidden things You know about my secrets,
وَلَا تُعاجِلْنِى بِالْعُقُوبَةِ عَلى مَا عَمِلْتُهُ فِى خَلَواتِى مِنْ سُوءِ فِعْلِى وَ إِساءَتِى،
And do not hasten punishment upon me for what I did in my private moments of bad deeds and wrongs,
وَدَوامِ تَفْرِيطِى وَجَهالَتِى،
And my continuous negligence and ignorance,
وَكَثْرَةِ شَهَواتِى وَغَفْلَتِى، وَكُنِ
And the abundance of my desires and my heedlessness. And be,
اللَّهُمَّ بِعِزَّتِكَ لِى فِى كُلِّ الْأَحْوالِ (1) 329 رَؤُوفاً،
O Allah, by Your glory, to me in all situations (1) 329, merciful,
وَعَلَىَّ فِى جَمِيعِ الْأُمُورِ عَطُوفاً.
And to me in all matters, kind.
إِلهِى وَرَبِّى مَنْ لِى غَيْرُكَ أَسْأَلُهُ كَشْفَ ضُرِّى،
My God and my Lord, who do I have other than You to ask for the removal of my distress,
وَالنَّظَرَ فِى أَمْرِى.
And to look into my affair?
إِلهِى وَمَوْلاىَ أَجْرَيْتَ عَلَىَّ حُكْماً اتَّبَعْتُ فِيهِ هَوى نَفْسِى،
My God and my Master, You passed a judgment upon me in which I followed the desire of my soul,
وَلَمْ أَحْتَرِسْ فِيهِ (2) 330 مِنْ تَزْيِينِ عَدُوِّى،
And I did not guard myself in it (2) 330 from the adornment of my enemy,
فَغَرَّنِى بِمَا أَهْوى وَأَسْعَدَهُ عَلَى ذلِكَ الْقَضاءُ،
So he deceived me with what I desired, and destiny helped him in that,
فَتَجاوَزْتُ بِما جَرى عَلَىَّ مِنْ ذلِكَ بَعْضَ حُدُودِكَ (3) 331،
So I exceeded, by what happened to me from that, some of Your limits (3) 331,
وَخالَفْتُ بَعْضَ أَوامِرِكَ،
And I violated some of Your commands.
فَلَكَ الحَمْدُ (4) 332 عَلَىَّ فِى جَمِيعِ ذلِكَ،
So all praise (4) 332 is due to You concerning all of that for me,
وَلَا حُجَّةَ لِى فِيما جَرى عَلَىَّ فِيهِ قَضَاؤُكَ،
And I have no argument in what Your decree passed upon me,
وَأَ لْزَمَنِى حُكْمُكَ وَبَلاؤُكَ،
And Your judgment and trial have bound me.
وَقَدْ أَتَيْتُكَ يَا إِلهِى بَعْدَ تَقْصِيرِى وَ إِسْرافِى عَلى نَفْسِى،
And I have come to You, O my God, after my shortcomings and my extravagance against myself,
مُعْتَذِراً نادِماً مُنْكَسِراً مُسْتَقِيلًا مُسْتَغْفِراً مُنِيباً مُقِرّاً مُذْعِناً مُعْتَرِفاً،
Apologizing, regretful, broken, seeking forgiveness, repenting, returning to You, confessing, submitting, acknowledging,
لَاأَجِدُ مَفَرّاً مِمَّا كَانَ مِنِّى وَلَا مَفْزَعاً أَتَوَجَّهُ إِلَيْهِ فِى أَمْرِى،
I find no escape from what came from me, and no refuge to turn to in my affair,
غَيْرَ قَبُو لِكَ عُذْرِى وَ إِدْخالِكَ إِيَّاىَ فِى سَعَةِ رَحْمَتِكَ (5) 333.
Except Your acceptance of my excuse and Your inclusion of me in the vastness of Your mercy (5) 333.
اللَّهُمَ (6) 334 فَاقْبَلْ عُذْرِى،
O Allah (6) 334, so accept my excuse,
وَارْحَمْ شِدَّةَ ضُرِّى،
And have mercy on the severity of my distress,
وَفُكَّنِى مِنْ شَدِّ وَثاقِى.
And release me from my strong bonds.
يَا رَبِّ ارْحَمْ ضَعْفَ بَدَنِى،
O Lord, have mercy on the weakness of my body,
وَرِقَّةَ جِلْدِى، وَدِقَّةَ عَظْمِى،
And the tenderness of my skin, and the fragility of my bones.
يَا مَنْ بَدَأَ خَلْقِى وَذِكْرِى وَتَرْبِيَتِى وَبِرِّى وَتَغْذِيَتِى،
O One Who began my creation, and my remembrance, and my upbringing, and my kindness, and my nourishment,
هَبْنِى لِابْتِداءِ كَرَمِكَ وَسالِفِ بِرِّكَ بِى.
Grant me (for the sake of) Your initial generosity and Your past kindness to me.
يَا إِلهِى وَسَيِّدِى وَرَبِّى،
O my God, and my Master, and my Lord,
أَ تُراكَ مُعَذِّبِى بِنَارِكَ بَعْدَ تَوْحِيدِكَ،
Do You see Yourself punishing me with Your fire after my belief in Your Oneness,
وَبَعْدَ مَا انْطَوى عَلَيْهِ قَلْبِى مِنْ مَعْرِفَتِكَ،
And after what my heart has contained of Your knowledge,
وَلَهِجَ بِهِ لِسَانِى مِنْ ذِكْرِكَ،
And what my tongue has ardently spoken of Your remembrance,
وَاعْتَقَدَهُ ضَمِيرِى مِنْ حُبِّكَ،
And what my conscience has believed of Your love,
وَبَعْدَ صِدْقِ اعْتِرافِى وَدُعَائِى خَاضِعاً لِرُبُوبِيَّتِكَ،
And after my sincere confession and my prayer, humbly submitting to Your Lordship?
هَيْهاتَ أَ نْتَ أَكْرَمُ مِنْ أَنْ تُضَيِّعَ مَنْ رَبَّيْتَهُ،
Far be it! You are too generous to lose one You have nourished,
أَوْ تُبْعِدَ (7) 335 مَنْ أَدْنَيْتَهُ،
Or to drive away (7) 335 one You have brought near,
أَوْ تُشَرِّدَ (8) 336 مَنْ آوَيْتَهُ،
Or to scatter (8) 336 one You have sheltered,
أَوْ تُسَلِّمَ إِلَى الْبَلَاءِ مَنْ كَفَيْتَهُ وَرَحِمْتَهُ،
Or to hand over to calamity one You have sufficed and had mercy on.
وَلَيْتَ شِعْرِى يَا سَيِّدِى وَ إِلهِى
I wish I knew, O my Master, and my God,
وَمَوْلاىَ، أَ تُسَلِّطُ النَّارَ عَلَى وُجُوهٍ خَرَّتْ لِعَظَمَتِكَ سَاجِدَةً،
And my Protector, would You let the fire touch faces that prostrated in humility before Your greatness,
وَعَلَى أَ لْسُنٍ نَطَقَتْ بِتَوْحِيدِكَ صَادِقَةً،
And tongues that spoke Your Oneness sincerely,
وَبِشُكْرِكَ مَادِحَةً،
And praised You with gratitude,
وَعَلَى قُلُوبٍ اعْتَرَفَتْ بِإِلهِيَّتِكَ مُحَقِّقَةً،
And hearts that acknowledged Your divinity truly,
وَعَلَى ضَمَائِرَ حَوَتْ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ بِكَ حَتَّى صَارَتْ خَاشِعَةً،
And consciences that held knowledge of You until they became humble,
وَعَلَى جَوارِحَ سَعَتْ إِلَى أَوْطانِ تَعَبُّدِكَ طَائِعَةً،
And limbs that willingly strove towards the places of Your worship,
وَ أَشارَتْ بِاسْتِغْفارِكَ مُذْعِنَةً،
And pointed to Your forgiveness with submission?
مَا هَكَذَا الظَّنُّ بِكَ، وَلَا أُخْبِرْنا بِفَضْلِكَ عَنْكَ يَا كَرِيمُ،
This is not what we expect of You, nor have we been told of Your bounty concerning You, O Most Generous.
يَا رَبِّ وَأَ نْتَ تَعْلَمُ ضَعْفِى عَنْ قَلِيلٍ مِنْ بَلاءِ الدُّنْيا وَعُقُوباتِها،
O Lord, You know my weakness concerning a small part of the world's trials and its punishments,
وَمَا يَجْرِى فِيها مِنَ الْمَكَارِهِ عَلَى أَهْلِها،
And what happens in it of disliked things to its people,
عَلى أَنَّ ذلِكَ بَلاءٌ وَمَكْرُوهٌ قَلِيلٌ مَكْثُهُ،
Even though that trial and disliked thing is short in its stay,
يَسِيرٌ بَقاؤُهُ، قَصِيرٌ مُدَّتُهُ،
Simple in its duration, short in its period.
فَكَيْفَ احْتِمالِى لِبَلاءِ الْآخِرَةِ وَجَلِيلِ (1) 337 وُقُوعِ الْمَكَارِهِ فِيها؟
So how can I bear the trial of the Hereafter and the great (1) 337 occurrence of disliked things therein?
وَهُوَ بَلاءٌ تَطُولُ مُدَّتُهُ، وَيَدُومُ مَقامُهُ،
And it is a trial whose period is long, and its stay is lasting,
وَلَا يُخَفَّفُ عَنْ أَهْلِهِ،
And it is not lightened for its people,
لِأَنَّهُ لَايَكُونُ إِلّا عَنْ غَضَبِكَ وَانْتِقامِكَ وَسَخَطِكَ،
Because it is only from Your wrath, and Your vengeance, and Your anger.
وَهذا ما لَاتَقُومُ لَهُ السَّماواتُ وَالْأَرْضُ،
And this is what the heavens and the earth cannot withstand.
يَا سَيِّدِى فَكَيْفَ لِى (2) 338 وَأَ نَا عَبْدُكَ الضَّعِيفُ الذَّلِيلُ الْحَقِيرُ الْمِسْكِينُ الْمُسْتَكِينُ؟
O my Master, how can I (2) 338, when I am Your weak, humble, lowly, poor, submissive servant?
يَا إِلهِى وَرَبِّى وَسَيِّدِى وَمَوْلاىَ،
O my God, and my Lord, and my Master, and my Protector,
لِأَيِّ الْأُمُورِ إِلَيْكَ أَشْكُو،
For which of the matters shall I complain to You?
وَ لِمَا مِنْها أَضِجُّ وَأَبْكِى،
And for which of them shall I wail and cry?
لِأَلِيمِ الْعَذابِ وَشِدَّتِهِ،
For the painful torment and its severity?
أَمْ لِطُولِ الْبَلَاءِ وَمُدَّتِهِ.
Or for the long trial and its duration?
فَلَئِنْ صَيَّرْتَنِى لِلْعُقُوبَاتِ مَعَ أَعْدائِكَ،
So if You appoint me for punishments with Your enemies,
وَجَمَعْتَ بَيْنِى وَبَيْنَ أَهْلِ بَلَائِكَ،
And gather me with the people of Your trials,
وَفَرَّقْتَ بَيْنِى وَبَيْنَ أَحِبَّائِكَ وَأَوْ لِيائِكَ،
And separate me from Your beloved ones and Your saints,
فَهَبْنِى يَا إِلهِى وَسَيِّدِى وَمَوْلاىَ (3) 339 وَرَبِّى،
Then grant me, O my God, and my Master, and my Protector (3) 339, and my Lord,
صَبَرْتُ عَلَى عَذابِكَ، فَكَيْفَ أَصْبِرُ عَلَى فِراقِكَ،
(Even if) I bore Your torment, how can I bear Your separation?
وَهَبْنِى (4) 340 صَبَرْتُ عَلى حَرِّ نَارِكَ، فَكَيْفَ أَصْبِرُ عَنِ النَّظَرِ إِلَى كَرامَتِكَ؟
And grant me (4) 340 (even if) I bore the heat of Your fire, how can I bear being deprived of looking at Your nobility?
أَمْ كَيْفَ أَسْكُنُ فِى النَّارِ وَرَجائِى عَفْوُكَ؟
Or how can I dwell in the Fire while my hope is Your forgiveness?
فَبِعِزَّتِكَ يَا سَيِّدِى وَمَوْلاىَ أُقْسِمُ صَادِقاً،
So by Your glory, O my Master and my Protector, I truly swear,
لَئِنْ تَرَكْتَنِى نَاطِقاً لَأَضِجَّنَّ إِلَيْكَ بَيْنَ أَهْلِها
If You leave me able to speak, I will surely wail to You among its inhabitants,
ضَجِيجَ الْآمِلِينَ (1) 341،
With the wailing of those who hope (1) 341,
وَلَأَصْرُخَنَّ إِلَيْكَ صُراخَ الْمُسْتَصْرِخِينَ،
And I will surely cry out to You with the cry of those who seek help,
وَلَأَ بْكِيَنَّ عَلَيْكَ بُكَاءَ الْفَاقِدِينَ،
And I will surely weep for You with the weeping of those who have lost everything,
وَلَأُنادِيَنَّكَ أَيْنَ كُنْتَ يَا وَ لِىَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ،
And I will surely call out to You, "Where are You, O Guardian of the believers?"
يَا غَايَةَ آمالِ الْعارِفِينَ،
O ultimate hope of the knowers,
يَا غِياثَ الْمُسْتَغِيثِينَ،
O succor of those who seek help,
يَا حَبِيبَ قُلُوبِ الصَّادِقِينَ، وَيَا إِلهَ الْعالَمِينَ.
O Beloved of the hearts of the truthful, and O God of the worlds.
أَفَتُراكَ سُبْحَانَكَ يَا إِلهِى وَبِحَمْدِكَ تَسْمَعُ فِيها صَوْتَ عَبْدٍ مُسْلِمٍ سُجِنَ (2) 342 فِيها بِمُخالَفَتِهِ،
Do You, glory be to You, O my God, and by Your praise, hear in it the voice of a Muslim servant imprisoned (2) 342 in it for his disobedience,
وَذاقَ طَعْمَ عَذابِها بِمَعْصِيَتِهِ،
And tasted the flavor of its torment because of his disobedience,
وَحُبِسَ بَيْنَ أَطْباقِها بِجُرْمِهِ وَجَرِيرَتِهِ،
And was confined between its layers because of his crime and transgression,
وَهُوَ يَضِجُّ إِلَيْكَ ضَجِيجَ مُؤَمِّلٍ لِرَحْمَتِكَ،
While he wails to You with the wailing of one who hopes for Your mercy,
وَيُنادِيكَ بِلِسانِ أَهْلِ تَوْحِيدِكَ،
And calls out to You with the tongue of the people of Your Oneness,
وَيَتَوَسَّلُ إِلَيْكَ بِرُبُوبِيَّتِكَ؟
And seeks nearness to You by Your Lordship?
يَا مَوْلاىَ فَكَيْفَ يَبْقى فِى الْعَذابِ وَهُوَ يَرْجُو مَا سَلَفَ مِنْ حِلْمِكَ؟
O my Master, how can he remain in torment while he hopes for Your past forbearance?
أَمْ كَيْفَ تُؤْ لِمُهُ النَّارُ وَهُوَ يَأْمُلُ فَضْلَكَ وَرَحْمَتَكَ؟
Or how can the fire pain him while he hopes for Your bounty and mercy?
أَمْ كَيْفَ يُحْرِقُهُ لَهِيبُها وَأَ نْتَ تَسْمَعُ صَوْتَهُ وَتَرى مَكانَهُ؟
Or how can its flames burn him while You hear his voice and see his place?
أَمْ كَيْفَ يَشْتَمِلُ عَلَيْهِ زَفِيرُها وَأَ نْتَ تَعْلَمُ ضَعْفَهُ؟
Or how can its roaring encompass him while You know his weakness?
أَمْ كَيْفَ يَتَقَلْقَلُ (3) 343 بَيْنَ أَطْباقِها وَأَ نْتَ تَعْلَمُ صِدْقَهُ؟
Or how can he be restless (3) 343 between its layers while You know his sincerity?
أَمْ كَيْفَ تَزْجُرُهُ زَبانِيَتُها وَهُوَ يُنادِيكَ يَا رَبَّهُ؟
Or how can its guardians scold him while he calls out to You, "O his Lord?"
أَمْ كَيْفَ يَرْجُو فَضْلَكَ فِى عِتْقِهِ مِنْها فَتَتْرُكُهُ (4) 344 فِيها (5) 345،
Or how can he hope for Your bounty in his freedom from it, and then You leave him (4) 344 in it (5) 345?
هَيْهاتَ ما ذلِكَ الظَّنُ بِكَ، وَلَا الْمَعْرُوفُ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ،
Far be it! That is not what we expect of You, nor is it known from Your bounty,
وَلَا مُشْبِهٌ لِمَا عَامَلْتَ بِهِ الْمُوَحِّدِينَ مِنْ بِرِّكَ وَ إِحْسانِكَ،
Nor is it similar to how You have treated the monotheists with Your kindness and goodness.
فَبِالْيَقِينِ أَقْطَعُ، لَوْلَا مَا حَكَمْتَ بِهِ مِنْ تَعْذِيبِ جَاحِدِيكَ،
So with certainty, I declare: were it not for what You have decreed concerning the punishment of those who deny You,
وَقَضَيْتَ بِهِ مِنْ إِخْلادِ مُعانِدِيكَ،
And what You have ordained concerning the eternal stay of Your stubborn opponents,
لَجَعَلْتَ النَّارَ كُلَّها بَرْداً وَسَلاماً،
You would have made the entire fire cool and peaceful,
وَمَا كَانَ (6) 346 لِأَحَدٍ فِيها مَقَرّاً وَلَا مُقاماً (7) 347،
And there would have been no dwelling (6) 346 or stay (7) 347 for anyone in it.
لَكِنَّكَ تَقَدَّسَتْ أَسْماؤُكَ أَقْسَمْتَ أَنْ تَمْلَأَها مِنَ الْكَافِرِينَ،
But You, whose Names are sacred, have sworn to fill it with disbelievers,
مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ،
From jinn and humans, all of them,
وَأَنْ تُخَلِّدَ فِيهَا الْمُعانِدِينَ،
And to make the stubborn opponents dwell therein forever.
وَأَ نْتَ جَلَّ ثَناؤُكَ قُلْتَ
And You, glorious is Your praise, have said,
مُبْتَدِئاً، وَتَطَوَّلْتَ (1) 348 بِالْإِنْعامِ مُتَكَرِّماً،
Beginning, and You have extended Your favor (1) 348 generously,
أَفَمَنْ كَانَ مُؤْمِناً كَمَنْ كَانَ فَاسِقاً لَا يَسْتَوُونَ.
"Is then he who is a believer like him who is a transgressor? They are not equal."
إِلهِى وَسَيِّدِى، فَأَسْأَ لُكَ بِالْقُدْرَةِ الَّتِى قَدَّرْتَها،
My God and my Master, I ask You by the power You have decreed,
وَبِالْقَضِيَّةِ الَّتِى حَتَمْتَها وَحَكَمْتَها،
And by the judgment You have ordained and ruled,
وَغَلَبْتَ مَنْ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرَيْتَها،
And by which You overcame those upon whom You carried it out,
أَنْ تَهَبَ لِى فِى هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ وَفِى هَذِهِ السَّاعَةِ،
To grant me in this night and in this hour,
كُلَّ جُرْمٍ أَجْرَمْتُهُ، وَكُلَّ ذَ نْبٍ أَذْ نَبْتُهُ،
Every crime I have committed, and every sin I have done,
وَكُلَّ قَبِيحٍ أَسْرَرْتُهُ، وَكُلَّ جَهْلٍ عَمِلْتُهُ،
And every shameful act I have concealed, and every ignorance I have committed,
كَتَمْتُهُ أَوْ أَعْلَنْتُهُ، أَخْفَيْتُهُ أَوْ أَظْهَرْتُهُ،
Whether I hid it or made it public, whether I kept it secret or revealed it,
وَكُلَّ سَيِّئَةٍ أَمَرْتَ بِإِثْباتِهَا الْكِرامَ الْكاتِبِينَ،
And every evil deed whose recording You commanded to the noble scribes,
الَّذِينَ وَكَّلْتَهُمْ بِحِفْظِ مَا يَكُونُ مِنِّى،
Those whom You entrusted with preserving what comes from me,
وَجَعَلْتَهُمْ شُهُوداً عَلَىَّ مَعَ جَوارِحِى،
And You made them witnesses against me along with my limbs,
وَكُنْتَ أَ نْتَ الرَّقِيبَ عَلَىَّ مِنْ وَرائِهِمْ،
And You Yourself were the Watcher over me from behind them,
وَالشَّاهِدَ لِما خَفِىَ عَنْهُمْ،
And the Witness to what was hidden from them,
وَبِرَحْمَتِكَ أَخْفَيْتَهُ، وَبِفَضْلِكَ سَتَرْتَهُ،
And by Your mercy You concealed it, and by Your bounty You covered it.
وَأَنْ تُوَفِّرَ حَظِّى، مِنْ كُلِّ خَيْرٍ أَنْزَلْتَهُ،
And to increase my share of every good You have sent down,
أَوْ إِحْسَانٍ فَضَّلْتَه، أَوْ بِرٍّ نَشَرْتَهُ، أَوْ رِزْقٍ بَسَطْتَهُ (2) 349،
Or benevolence You have bestowed, or kindness You have spread, or provision You have extended (2) 349,
أَوْ ذَ نْبٍ تَغْفِرُهُ، أَوْ خَطَاً تَسْتُرُهُ،
Or sin You forgive, or error You cover.
يَا رَبِّ يَا رَبِّ يَا رَبِّ،
O Lord, O Lord, O Lord,
يَا إِلهِى وَسَيِّدِى وَمَوْلاىَ وَمالِكَ رِقِّى،
O my God, and my Master, and my Protector, and Owner of my servitude,
يَا مَنْ بِيَدِهِ نَاصِيَتِى،
O One in Whose hand is my forelock,
يَا عَلِيماً بِضُرِّى (3) 350 وَمَسْكَنَتِى،
O Knower of my distress (3) 350 and my misery,
يَا خَبِيراً بِفَقْرِى وَفاقَتِى،
O Aware of my poverty and my need,
يَا رَبِّ يَا رَبِّ يَا رَبِّ،
O Lord, O Lord, O Lord,
أَسْأَ لُكَ بِحَقِّكَ وَقُدْسِكَ وَأَعْظَمِ صِفاتِكَ وَأَسْمائِكَ،
I ask You by Your right and Your holiness and Your greatest attributes and Names,
أَنْ تَجْعَلَ أَوْقاتِى مِنَ اللَّيْلِ (4) 351 وَالنَّهارِ بِذِكْرِكَ مَعْمُورَةً،
To make my times of night (4) 351 and day filled with Your remembrance,
وَبِخِدْمَتِكَ مَوْصُولَةً، وَأَعْمالِى عِنْدَكَ مَقْبُولَةً،
And connected to Your service, and my deeds accepted by You,
حَتَّى تَكُونَ أَعْمالِى وَأَوْرادِى (5) 352 كُلُّها وِرْداً وَاحِداً،
So that all my deeds and devotions (5) 352 become a single devotion,
وَحالِى فِى خِدْمَتِكَ سَرْمَداً.
And my state in Your service is eternal.
يَا سَيِّدِى يَا مَنْ عَلَيْهِ مُعَوَّلِى (6) 353،
O my Master, O One on Whom I rely (6) 353,
يَا مَنْ إِلَيْهِ شَكَوْتُ أَحْوالِى،
O One to Whom I complain about my conditions,
يَا رَبِّ يَا رَبِّ يَا رَبِّ،
O Lord, O Lord, O Lord,
قَوِّ عَلى خِدْمَتِكَ جَوارِحِى،
Strengthen my limbs for Your service,
وَاشْدُدْ عَلَى الْعَزِيمَةِ جَوانِحِى،
And strengthen my resolve (inner parts) for determination,
وَهَبْ لِىَ الْجِدَّ فِى خَشْيَتِكَ،
And grant me seriousness in fearing You,
وَالدَّوامَ فِى الاتِّصالِ بِخِدْمَتِكَ، حَتّى
And persistence in continuous connection with Your service, until
أَسْرَحَ إِلَيْكَ فِى مَيادِينِ السَّابِقِينَ،
I may hasten to You in the fields of the foremost,
وَأُسْرِعَ إِلَيْكَ فِى البَارِزِينَ (1) 354،
And rush to You among the prominent (1) 354,
وَأَشْتاقَ إِلى قُرْبِكَ فِى الْمُشْتاقِينَ،
And yearn for Your closeness among the yearning,
وَأَدْنُوَ مِنْكَ دُنُوَّ الْمُخْلِصِينَ،
And draw near to You with the closeness of the sincere,
وَأَخافَكَ مَخافَةَ الْمُوقِنِينَ،
And fear You with the fear of the certain,
وَأَجْتَمِعَ فِى جِوارِكَ مَعَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ.
And gather in Your vicinity with the believers.
اللَّهُمَّ وَمَنْ أَرادَنِى بِسُوءٍ فَأَرِدْهُ،
O Allah, and whoever intends evil for me, then intend it for him,
وَمَنْ كادَنِى فَكِدْهُ،
And whoever plots against me, then plot against him,
وَاجْعَلْنِى مِنْ أَحْسَنِ عَبِيدِكَ نَصِيباً عِنْدَكَ،
And make me among the best of Your servants in share with You,
وَأَقْرَبِهِمْ مَنْزِلَةً مِنْكَ،
And the closest of them in rank to You,
وَأَخَصِّهِمْ زُلْفَةً لَدَيْكَ،
And the most special of them in nearness to You,
فَإِنَّهُ لَايُنالُ ذلِكَ إِلّا بِفَضْلِكَ،
For indeed, that is not attained except by Your grace.
وَجُدْ لِى بِجُودِكَ، وَاعْطِفْ عَلَىَّ بِمَجْدِكَ،
And be generous to me with Your generosity, and be compassionate to me with Your glory,
وَاحْفَظْنِى بِرَحْمَتِكَ،
And protect me with Your mercy,
وَاجْعَلْ لِسانِى بِذِكْرِكَ لَهِجاً،
And make my tongue fervent with Your remembrance,
وَقَلْبِى بِحُبِّكَ مُتَيَّماً (2) 355،
And my heart deeply devoted (2) 355 with Your love,
وَمُنَّ عَلَىَّ بِحُسْنِ إِجابَتِكَ،
And grant me the favor of Your good response,
وَأَقِلْنِى عَثْرَتِى، وَاغْفِرْ زَلَّتِى،
And overlook my stumbling, and forgive my slip,
فَإِنَّكَ قَضَيْتَ عَلى عِبادِكَ بِعِبادَتِكَ،
For You have decreed upon Your servants to worship You,
وَأَمَرْتَهُمْ بِدُعائِكَ، وَضَمِنْتَ لَهُمُ الْإِجابَةَ،
And You commanded them to pray to You, and You guaranteed them the answer.
فَإِلَيْكَ يارَبِّ نَصَبْتُ وَجْهِى،
So to You, O Lord, I have turned my face,
وَ إِلَيْكَ يَا رَبِّ مَدَدْتُ يَدِى،
And to You, O Lord, I have stretched out my hand.
فَبِعِزَّتِكَ اسْتَجِبْ لِى دُعائِى،
So by Your glory, answer my prayer,
وَبَلِّغْنِى مُناىَ،
And let me reach my desire,
وَلَا تَقْطَعْ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ رَجائِى،
And do not cut off my hope from Your bounty,
وَاكْفِنِى شَرَّ الْجِنِّ وَالْإِنْسِ مِنْ أَعْدائِى،
And suffice me from the evil of jinn and humans among my enemies.
يَا سَرِيعَ الرِّضا،
O Swift in approval,
اغْفِرْ لِمَنْ لَايَمْلِكُ إِلّا الدُّعاءَ،
Forgive him who possesses nothing but prayer,
فَإِنَّكَ فَعَّالٌ لِما تَشَاءُ،
For You are Doer of what You will.
يَا مَنِ اسْمُهُ دَوَاءٌ، وَذِكْرُهُ شِفاءٌ، وَطَاعَتُهُ غِنىً،
O One whose Name is a remedy, and whose remembrance is a cure, and whose obedience is richness,
ارْحَمْ مَنْ رَأْسُ مالِهِ الرَّجاءُ، وَسِلاحُهُ الْبُكَاءُ،
Have mercy on one whose capital is hope, and whose weapon is weeping.
يَا سَابِغَ النِّعَمِ، يَا دَافِعَ النِّقَمِ،
O Bestower of abundant blessings, O Repeller of misfortunes,
يَا نُورَ الْمُسْتَوْحِشِينَ فِى الظُّلَمِ،
O Light of those who are lonely in darkness,
يَا عَالِماً لَايُعَلَّمُ،
O Knower Who is not taught,
صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ،
Bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad,
وَافْعَلْ بِى مَا أَ نْتَ أَهْلُهُ،
And do with me what You are worthy of,
وَصَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلى رَسُو لِهِ وَالْأَئِمَّةِ الْمَيامِينَ مِنْ آلِهِ (3) 356 وَسَلَّمَ تَسْلِيماً كَثِيراً (4) 357 (5) 358.
And may Allah bless His Messenger and the blessed Imams from his family (3) 356 and grant much peace (4) 357 (5) 358.
